In Cross Section (photograph of a cross section of earth) I was interested in pursuing a deadpan investigation of the space directly beneath one's feet, the city park, the suburban back yard or golf course. I see these spaces as banal and familiar, yet, oddly unknowable. This photograph was made by recreating a section earth as a large full-scale model using real earth and grass. This model was built out of a desire to create an imagined space rather than investigating an actual, or specific space.
